MAY 2026 Mobile Disrupt Nice 2026: Four Signals Worth Paying Attention To

By SKF Tech Team · June 3, 2026

We were on the floor at Mobile Disrupt Nice 2026. Here’s what actually mattered.

1. AI is eating the memory supply — and it’s hitting device manufacturers and refurbishers hard

AI infrastructure demand has constrained the global memory market to the point where replacement modules are expensive and hard to source. The Micron CEO said it publicly. We watched the machines doing it live.

For refurbishers, the practical implication: stop assuming cheap replacement memory. Build supplier redundancy, prioritize devices with intact storage, and invest in certified data erasure — if you can wipe and recertify existing memory, you don’t need to replace it. Data erasure was one of the busiest segments at the show for exactly this reason.

2. Audio refurbishment is a real opportunity with almost no competition

Demand for refurbished earbuds, headphones, and speakers is growing — driven by EU sustainability mandates, rising device prices, and consumer appetite. The infrastructure to serve it (standardized grading, warranty programs, returns handling) barely exists in Europe.

That’s the opportunity. SKF Tech is evaluating where we fit in the market. If you’re working in this space or want to, reach out.

3. AI in device processing is moving from pitch to baseline

The companies gaining traction weren’t selling AI as a concept — they were embedding it into operations: computer vision for cosmetic grading, predictive diagnostics for triage, dynamic pricing tied to live secondary market data. Integration with existing warehouse and ERP systems was what separated demos that impressed from solutions that sold.

This is becoming table stakes, not a differentiator.

4. Returns are still broken — but the industry is finally treating it as a supply chain problem

Return volumes are high and the issues are structural: inconsistent device conditions, fraud, and the cost of triaging mixed-quality inventory at scale. The shift we noticed at Nice: more operators are building returns infrastructure instead of just absorbing the cost. Carrier-refurbisher alliances, AI-powered intake routing, and warranty-backed resale programs are early models worth watching.

SKF Tech is active in conversations on returns — both as a processing partner and on the technology side.

Bottom line: The device lifecycle industry is being reshaped by accelerating replacement cycles alongside component scarcity, supply chain disruption, sustainability pressure, and AI-driven operations. Mobile Disrupt US is next. We’ll be there.
